Many individuals are turning their attention to fitness and aspiring to lead a healthier lifestyle in 2025.
However, it can be hard to know where to start when you are making lifestyle changes. Thankfully though, personal trainer Alfie Evans has come to the rescue.
On TikTok, the PT shared an affordable £35 weekly shop from Marks and Spencer that could assist in shedding unwanted weight. Alfie acknowledged that “M&S isn’t the cheapest,” but he highlighted that the quality of the food is “high,” and it’s still possible to find items there that support eating within a calorie deficit.
He suggests adding oats, wholemeal bread, and sweet potatoes to your basket, claiming: “They beat normal potatoes any day of the week”.
Alfie went on to say: “Then pick up 12% fat beef mince, chicken breast, 0% fat Greek yoghurt, and eggs. These are lean protein sources, so they’re low calorie and help you retain muscle mass.
“For healthy fats, go for peanuts and 85% dark chocolate. They’re good for hormone function but calorie dense,” he shared, warning people about the size of the portion they consume.
Next, Alfie advises to “grab lots of your favourite fruit and veg,” as they have a “great volume to calorie ratio” which helps you stay satiated with fewer calories.
Regarding seasoning, Alfie mentioned you can “take your pick” since they contain “f*** all calories”. But he cautioned that when it comes to sauces, one should be mindful of their caloric content.
“And that’s the shop secured,” he declared, standing at the checkout and noting the total came to £33.80.
Many agreed that you can get lots of healthy food from Marks and Spencer without breaking the bank. One wrote: “M&S is much cheaper nowadays. Even the household items are cheaper”. And another said: “I agree Marks and Spencer is better quality and not as expensive as folk think, but how can that food last for a week?”
Meanwhile, others shared advice of their own. One recommended: “Sourdough bread, 20% fat mince, 5% Greek yoghurt, Kerrygold butter, Graham’s milk, berries, avocado chicken with skin on it, and THEN you have a much better trolley…”
And another fitness enthusiast advised, “Drop the 0% Greek yoghurt for full-fat Greek Yoghurt” as a “better option”, to which someone concurred: “Agreed”.
