Netflix has just released a brand new documentary called Avicii: I’m Tim, which follows the life and rise to prominence of the late DJ and producer who tragically took his own life in 2018.
As fans tune into the one-off special on the streaming platform to find out more about the star’s life, fans are able to visit a prominent venue in his native Sweden, which has been named after him.
The Avicii Arena is an indoor-arena located in Stockholm Globe City, the Johanneshov district of Stockholm, Sweden which was first erected in 1989.
The arena represents the Sun in the Sweden Solar System, the world’s largest scale model of the Solar System. Previously called the Stockholm Globe Arena followed by the Ericsson Globe, it was renamed in honour of the DJ. In 2021, three-years after his death, it was announced that it would be renamed as the Avicii Arena.
To commemorate the new name, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra recorded a performance of Avicii’s song For A Better Day, with vocals provided by 14-year-old singer Ella Tiritiello.
The seating capacity inside is 16,000 spectators for shows and concerts, and 13,850 for ice hockey, with the upper areas having 40 VIP boxes and restaurants.
A number of massive superstars have performed at the iconic venue over the years including Bon Jovi, Spice Girls, Aerosmith, Britney Spears and Katy Perry as well as well as playing host for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2000 and 2016.
If visiting the legendary venue while in Stockholm isn’t enough, the city also has the Avicii Experience, a tribute museum honouring the producer.
The museum’s website reads: “Join an interactive journey through Avicii’s life and musical career, experience untold stories, listen to unreleased music, and try out how it is to perform in front of tens of thousands of screaming fans.”
Avicii died in April 2018 while holidaying in Muscat, Oman at the age of 28, leaving his beloved fans heartbroken by the tragic news. No cause of death was immediately given but it was later revealed that he had taken his own life.
