Police are appealing for information after a pensioner was taken to hospital following a “serious” crash.
The 85-year-old man was raced to hospital on Sunday around 8.30am following the incident on Beith Road in Johnstone.
The car, a red Toyota Corolla, struck the elderly male who was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment. The driver of the car was not injured.
Beith Road was closed in both directions between Midton Road and Fordbank Avenue while an investigation took place, and it later reopened at 2.10pm.
Police Scotland has now launched an appeal for information in a bid to piece together exactly what happened.
Sergeant Paul Mellis, of the road policing unit, said: “Our inquiries are continuing to understand the full circumstances of what happened.
“I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who may have dash-cam footage, and has not yet spoken to or provided this information to officers, to contact us as soon as possible. The road re-opened at 2.10pm on Sunday, December 29.
“I want to thank members of the public for their patience while we investigated this serious crash.
“Anyone with information should call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0814 of December 29, 2024.”
In November, the Paisley Daily Express reported on the tragic death of Gary Sim after a single-vehicle crash on Beith Road around 2am on Saturday, November 9.
Gary, 53, who was from Johnstone, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he was pronounced dead after his car “burst into flames” during the incident.
The road was closed while investigations were carried out and reopened around 7.50am the following day.
