Stirling councillor Rachel Nunn has been named as one of the UK’s top 100 women in cycling.

Every year Cycling UK highlights 100 exceptional women who promote cycling and encourage others to take part.

And Councillor Nunn, as founder of Cycle Stirling, has been honoured in the Cycle Influencer category for “making every day cycling the norm”.

Her connections with cycling began as a student, commuting 10 miles daily to university, and evolved into a lifelong commitment to sustainable travel.

For the Conservative councillor and her family, bikes became the ‘second car,’ a practical and eco-friendly way to navigate life. Her dedication extended to founding Cycle Stirling – a community initiative empowering residents to embrace cycling as a norm.

Cycling UK said: “As a councillor, Rachel leverages her expertise, connections, and unwavering passion to remove barriers and accelerate the transition to active travel.

“From spearheading her local primary school’s Travel Plan – securing 20 mph limits and Bikeability training – to achieving Stirling’s first Cycling Scotland Cycle Friendly Primary School, Rachel’s leadership continues to inspire transformative change.”

Councillor Nunn said: “In my work on climate change, colleagues and I set up ‘Cycle Stirling’, working with other enthusiasts in our area to help residents onto bikes, so that ‘getting around’ cycling with all its benefits could be the norm for them as it is for us.”

She was congratulated on her achievement by councillors across the chamber at a recent full meeting of Stirling Council.

Cycling UK’s top 100 celebrates inspirational women who are leading by example in the activity. Women from all walks of life and every corner of the cycling world have been nominated, from mountain bikers and endurance cyclists to community group leaders, cycling school-run mums and industry entrepreneurs.

The 100 Women in Cycling list celebrates women from all walks of life, across all levels of cycling who stand out as being inspirational to others.

This year’s list ranges from the founder of Africa’s first woman-owned cycling apparel brand, Alice Kivuva, to award-winning author, educator and founder of the Period Positive movement, Chella Quint OBE, covering everything from grassroots campaigners to business leaders and social media influencers.
