A recently eliminated contestant from BBC’s popular gameshow The Traitors has revealed a secret he kept under wraps while in the castle.

The series, filled with betrayals and expulsions, made its return to our screens on January 1, introducing a new group of contestants competing for a prize pot of up to £120,000.

After just the first two episodes, two Faithfuls have already met their end. The first casualty was Yin, a communication doctor from Cambridge.

Her fate was sealed by Traitors Linda, Armani and Minah, who suspected her intelligence would lead her to uncover their identities, reports Wales Online.

Audiences then witnessed the next victim, Keith, being eliminated in episode two, much to his fellow cast members’ surprise. Following his departure, the former Faithful disclosed that he had been playing his cards close to his chest during the show.

Guesting on The Traitors Uncloaked podcast, where host Ed Gamble chats with stars from the BBC One show, Keith admitted that his early exit took him by surprise.

He reminisced about the moment he spotted the ominous envelope, saying: “I’d seen the envelope on the chair and I thought, ‘Oh, somebody might want me to be a Traitor.’ I didn’t think I was going to be murdered. I just opened it and reading it, that was the biggest shock of my life. I just thought to myself, ‘I was too smart.'”

In response to a question about whether he had any secrets he strategically kept from his rivals, the 65-year-old contestant divulged: “My big secret was being a black belt in taekwondo. I’m a first degree black belt in taekwondo and I didn’t want to tell anybody that just in case.”

He confessed, though, that he would have let slip the secret if he had stayed on the gameshow for a longer period.

In an attempt to dodge expulsion in the early stages, contestants on the show often resort to deceit. This series has seen Charlotte, a business director hailing from London, feigning a Welsh identity, complete with an imitated accent.

Ex-soldier Leanne, meanwhile, has concealed her military background from fellow participants, claiming instead to be a nail technician.

The Traitors returns tomorrow on BBC1 and iPlayer at 9PM.
