WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – Federal investigators are continuing their probe into the deadly terror attack early New Year’s Day in New Orleans.
The man who plowed his rented pick-up truck into scores of people on Bourbon Street in New Orleans on New Year’s Day likely acted alone.
Ahead of planned remarks about the judiciary, President Joe Biden commented on the ongoing investigation.
“As of now, no information, we have no information that anyone else was involved in the attack. They’ve established that the attacker was the same person who planted the explosives in those ice coolers, and two nearby locations in the French Quarter; just a few hours before he rammed into the crowd.”
In a Thursday press conference, FBI Deputy Director Christopher Raia said Shamsud-Din Jabbar had no accomplices in his terrorist attack that killed at least 14 people and injured at least 35 others.
“We are surging people and assets to the area from across the region and across the nation. Special agents in multiple offices across the country have been deployed and are assisting with aspects of the this investigation and following up every lead.”
Raia said the 42-year old suspect was an American born citizen from Texas Shamsud-Din Jabbar also was a U.S. Army veteran who pledged his allegiance to ISIS last summer.
Raia said there is no connection between the terror attack in New Orleans and the Telsa Cybertruck explosion Wednesday in Las Vegas.
Still, law enforcement officials across the country have increased their vigilance to prevent any other similar attacks. Chris Chambers is the founder of Churchill’s Strategy Group.
“I’m sure officials are revising their plans, looking at it, identifying any gaps, making prevent something like this from happening again.”
Federal investigators say they’ve recovered 3 cellphones and 2 laptops linked to Jabbar. At the same time, the FBI is still seeking information from anyone who was near scene of the New Orleans attack – or anyone who knew the driver.
