(CNN) – During a Monday arrest in California, police confiscated something highly unusual.
A monkey was taken into police custody after a highway patrol officer stopped a vehicle for speeding.
The driver was arrested for DUI as well as possession of cannabis for sale.
He also reportedly had a spider monkey with him that was roughly 1 month old.
In the state of California, it is against the law to own primates as pets.
Animal control took possession of the monkey and will give it proper care.
In addition to the drug and DUI charges, the driver is charged with possessing an exotic animal.
