The Centre, Livingston donated selection boxes to the local ‘Community Fridge’ in Craigshill to add to their Christmas food boxes which were delivered to people in the community who needed a helping hand this year.

The Community Fridge, which is operated by West Lothian Youth Action Project (WLYAP) and is part of the West Lothian Food Network, is open all year round where surplus food is donated by local businesses and individuals to help give people affected by low income the chance to access nutritious food, save money and reduce waste.

The Centre, Livingston has supported the Community Fridge for several years, including at Easter with the donation of hundreds of Easter eggs.

Helen Davis, project director of WLYAP and organiser of the Community Fridge, said: “The Centre have been a great supporter of the Community Fridge for a number of years and provided an extensive variety of products for special events such as Christmas and Easter time.

“It is a sad situation that families are still struggling to make ends meet, with a particular strain at Christmas time.

“The donation of selection boxes will be a welcome addition for our food boxes that we are providing for families in Craigshill and those in other localities who would benefit from a little bit of extra help at this time.

“It is a real pleasure working with the great team at The Centre, Livingston who we can’t thank enough.”

Tess Sundberg, marketing manager at The Centre, Livingston, said: “It was lovely to invite Helen in from the Community Fridge to receive our donation of selection boxes for their Christmas food boxes this year and also find out more about the great work they are continuing to do to help people in the local community.”

The Centre, Livingston is also supporting the children’s charity CHAS again this year, which provides the only hospice services in Scotland for children and young people with life-shortening conditions.

Shoppers can make donations at the contactless pop up machines, located opposite the Post Office and next to the washroom facilities, adjacent to Hotel Chocolat or join in some free festive workshops.
