The Aberdeen board will do everything in their power to bring in the quality that will bolster Jimmy Thelin’s squad this month and for the longer term.

The club’s head of recruitment Nuno de Almeida is working hard on a number of transfer fronts to help the Pittodrie side to strengthen their ranks for the second half of the season. The Dons hierarchy has made money available for Thelin to make changes and are actively working on a number of fronts.

Chairman Dave Cormack and his board made the Swedish boss their top target when they headhunted him from Elfsborg in the summer. Thelin was backed in his first window to bring in the likes of Sivert Nilsen, Dimitar Mitov, Topi Keskinen and Peter Ambrose, along with Scotland striker Kevin Nisbet coming in on loan.

They are ready to fully-support their manager again in this second window and beyond. The Dons and Thelin are both aligned in their vision, that it is going to be a long-term project to get Aberdeen back at the top end of the Premiership on a consistent basis.

Thelin is in the process of implementing an elite performance philosophy and environment across the Pittodrie club. The 46-year-old has a proven track record as a rejuvenated Elfsborg, turning them into a major force in Sweden and European regulars in his six years at the club.

The Dons board wasn’t getting carried away when they made a long unbeaten start under Thelin and their position hasn’t changed now their form has dipped. The Reds haven’t won in the last nine games and that is something that Thelin and his team will be working to try and change when they make the trip to Motherwell on Sunday.
