Greengairs and Wattston families received a very special delivery as part of the Monklands Christmas Toy Appeal.

Members of the Ramblin Midgies, Andy Robertson, transport manager of Murray Recovery of Overtown, and Marie Donavon from Greengairs Community Group helped present a selection of toys courtesy of the festive appeal and the management of Murray Recovery.

Andy Robertson heard how some children in the villages had asked about how Santa got all of his toys delivered at Christmas – and if Santa’s sleigh ever broke down.

Andy explained to the youngsters that when Santa is in Lanarkshire, his recovery trucks “are on standby to help him get back up and running if his sleigh breaks down”.

As previously reported by Lanarkshire Live, the Monklands Christmas Toy Appeal, now in its 12th year, has seen an incredible 14,000 gifts collected to date and distributed through volunteer groups to families in need in time for Christmas morning.

This year’s appeal has received around 500 donated gifts – with more still to come.
