WILLIAMSON, W.Va. – The United States Department of Justice said a man from Williamson pleaded guilty on January 3 to production of child porn. The announcement was made in a press release sent out on January 3.
According to court documents and statements made in court, in November 2019, 25-year-old Cameron Drake Newsome used a cell phone to take two photos of a child around 3-years-old while the child was naked from the waist down and with the child’s genitals as the focal point of the photos. The Department of Justice said Newsome admitted to taking the photographs and storing them on an online file storage account.
By storing the photos online, the Department of Justice said Newsome transported the photos in and affecting interstate commerce via the internet. Newsome also admitted that he stored numerous other photos and videos in his online file storage accounts showing minors, including prepubescent kids, engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
Newsome is scheduled to be sentenced on April 24, and faces a mandatory minimum of fifteen years and up to thirty years in prison, at least five years and up to a lifetime of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
The Department of Justice said Newsome must also register as a sex offender.
