Police have revealed a teenage boy was struck by a car that failed to stop in Barrhead on New Year’s Day.

Around 10.55pm on Wednesday, January 1, police received a report from a concerned member of the public of a 15-year-old boy on an electric bike having been found “seriously injured” on Aurs Drive in the town.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where his condition is described as “serious”.

Extensive enquiries have been carried out and it has been established that he was hit by a car which subsequently failed to stop.

The car is believed to be a silver Vauxhall Astra and enquiries are ongoing to trace it.

Sergeant Ally Wright, of Police Scotland, said: “We have now confirmed that a car was involved in this incident and our enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances.

“I am appealing for anyone who was in the area around the time and who may have seen the incident, the car or have information which could assist us to get in touch.

“I would also appeal to anyone with dash-cam footage or private CCTV to contact us.”

Aurs Drive was closed between the junctions of Arthurlie Street and Kelvin Drive overnight while police have asked drivers to avoid the area on Thursday.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 4085 of January 1, 2025.
