Snow and ice is set to cause havoc in Dumfries and Galloway over the next few days.
The Met Office has issued two yellow weather warnings for the region, with ice on Friday and Saturday set to be followed by snow – possibly as much as 20 centimetres – on Sunday and Monday.
The chilly conditions are expected to make travel difficult and could cause power cuts.
A previous warning for ice expired on Friday morning but with temperatures remaining low, a new warning will come into force at 4pm and run until 10am on Saturday.
A Met Office forecaster said: “Temperatures will again fall widely below freezing during Friday evening. This will allow ice to readily form on untreated surfaces, particularly where roads and pavements remain wet from wintry showers.
“Scattered showers will fall as a mixture of rain, sleet and snow. Most areas are unlikely to see any fresh accumulations of snow though a slight covering is possible in places, especially over parts of northern Scotland.”
People are advised to leave extra time for journeys and try to use stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated.
A yellow warning for snow is due to come into effect at midnight on Sunday and last until 6am – again causing travel disruption and also creating the potential for power cuts.
A forecaster said: “Whilst not all areas may be affected, outbreaks of snow will likely develop during Sunday and Sunday night, potentially giving some significant accumulations in places.
