Scotland has been dubbed the best place in the UK to live if you want healthy skin. Living in Scotland will work more wonders for your complexion than anywhere else in Britain, according to new climate data.

The research, carried out by Fresha, analysed climate data from every UK region to determine where on the island is best for achieving that youthful glow – and Dundonians will be delighted to know that their city came up trumps.

The data revealed that living in Scotland and the North East of England benefits skin health, with Dundee named the healthiest city year-round. This is because the Tayside metropolis has lower pollution and UV levels, according to the findings.

The City of Discovery shows an average wind speed of 7mph and receives 13mm of precipitation, despite having a high humidity level of 83 per cent. Dundee also boasts the lowest pollution levels among the cities analysed, with a reading of just 8.68μg/m³.

Lower pollution means fewer harmful particles, such as dirt, soot, and chemicals, in the air, reducing the risk of clogged pores, irritation, and premature ageing.

Scottish cities fared extremely well throughout the whole experiment. Newcastle upon Tyne ranked second for optimal skin conditions while Gateshead came in third. Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh, ranked fourth followed by Darlington in fifth, Aberdeen in sixth and Stockton-on-Tees in seventh.

Impressively, nowhere in Scotland was included in top 10 UK areas that are likely to harm your skin. The top spots prone to skin issues were all located down south. Scots shouldn’t get ahead of themselves, though, experts warn.

“Whilst Dundee proves to be the healthiest, there are still great risks in winter when windier and colder temperatures can dry out and irritate the skin,” a Fresha spokesperson explained. “Taking preventative steps now will significantly benefit your skin this new year.”
