Bruce Anderson has himself top of the Killie goalscoring charts – and he has no intention of giving it up.

The 26-year-old bagged a brace in their 2-0 win over St Mirren after converting the rebound from his own missed penalty in the first half before netting from the spot after the interval.

That took him to eight league goals for the season, a figure that has him trailing only Dundee United’s Sam Dalby in the top flight.

It’s also one more than fellow strikers Innes Cameron, Kyle Vassell, Bobby Wales and Marley Watkins combined.

But he’s not satisfied there, either, as he targets further success both for himself and the team in 2025.

He’s had to be patient and bide his time but says he’s been putting in the hard yards to make sure he was ready when called upon.

He said: “When I first joined I said that I’m here to score goals. I’ve just been working hard. I’ve got other aspects of my game that I need to improve on but I’m a goalscorer first and foremost. I want to hit the back of the net as much as I can.

“When the opportunity comes, I just want to keep scoring goals and hopefully I can continue that in to the new year.

“I just want to be as clinical as I can. I work with all the coaching staff every day on my finishing in and around the box. As a striker, goals are the most important thing and I’m no different.”

The confidence from netting regularly is clearly there, too, as he insists there was never any thought about handing the second penalty against the Buddies to anyone else.

He said: “Brad (Lyons) actually said about four times ‘are you sure you want this?’ I was like ‘Jesus Brad, cheers, putting more pressure on me’ but there was no chance.

“The first penalty wasn’t great but I scored after it so confidence was high so I was always, always wanting to take the second one.”

The win made it three on the bounce at home, while at the other end of the park they’ve conceded just three times in the last six games heading into Sunday’s visit of Ross County.

They’re getting back to being the Killie side he hated facing last season as a Livingston player, says Anderson.

“That was the sort of team I came up against last season and it’s good to be a part of it rather than against it,” he commented.

“Hopefully we can go and do something similar this season to what happened last season and we’ll be alright.

“We just need to knuckle down and take each game as it comes. It’s important that we kick on and take the confidence from the last three homes games.”
