LIBERTY, N.C. (WBTV/Gray News) – A truck driver passing through North Carolina won a multimillion-dollar lottery jackpot thanks to purchasing a lucky scratch-off ticket.

According to the North Carolina Education Lottery, trucker Melchor Aguilar stopped at a Kangaroo Express convenience store last weekend in Randolph County and bought the winning 200X The Cash scratch-off ticket for $30.

Aguilar, who lives in South Carolina, was working a weekend job when he decided to make a pit stop that included purchasing the ticket.

The winning scratch-off returned the game’s top prize of $5 million.

Aguilar chose to be paid in a lump sum payment and was awarded more than $2.1 million after taxes.

Lottery officials said three $5 million prizes and eight $100,000 prizes are still up for grabs for those playing the 200X The Cash lottery game.
