Fire crews scrambled to a Tesla car on fire in an Ayrshire town last night leaving residents in shock.

Emergency crews scrambled to the scene outside the Beijing Banquet restaurant at Queen’s Drive in the Riccarton area of Kilmarnock at around 5:58pm last night, Saturday, January 4.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and no injuries have been reported from the incident. Footage shows flames ripping through the entirety of the black Tesla vehicle under a sign for the restaurant. Another image shows the fire beginning to take hold under the wheel arch of the vehicle.

Locals lined up to comment online after footage of the fire was shared.

One quipped: “At least the heat will melt the ice save people moaning about sliding about.”

A woman commented: “And they say ‘buy electric.’ That’s the third one I’ve seen on fire.” Another posted added: “When are they going to admit these things are dangerous and stop trying to force them on us.”

However, a man replied: “Petrol and diesel vehicles combust every day. I hope everyone is okay.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “We were called out to the incident at Queen’s Drive in the Riccarton area of Kilmarnock last night, Saturday, January 4, at around 5.58pm. One appliance was sent to the scene to extinguish the fire.”

Speaking to the Record, Police Scotland confirmed that they were made aware of the fire and attended to assist with traffic.
