Former Rangers manager, Steven Gerrard is set to become a grandad at 44, as his daughter announces her happy news to the world.

Lilly-Ella posted a photo of her positive pregnancy test alongside the message: “Our little secret. The best news… mini us is on the way.” Proud dad, Steven shared his excitement and wrote: “We can’t wait. Great news and congratulations, we love you.” on the Instagram post by Lilly.

While Lily’s mum Alex Gerrard added: “Can’t wait.” The 20-year-old’s partner, Lee, is the son of jailed Irish gangster Liam Byrne. The 44-year-old was arrested in Spain in 2023 and was jailed in October 2024 for five years for weapons charges.

Byrne Snr pleaded guilty to conspiracy to import firearms. He is expected to only serve half of his sentence – and had already served 14 months in custody when he was convicted late last year. That means he could be released just in time for Christmas next year.

Lee is completely smitten with Lilly-Ella, having previously referred to her as “the best person he’s ever met”. They were first linked to each other just over two years ago.

In October 2022, it was revealed that Lilly, then just 18, was in a relationship with Lee, then 23, after they were spotted holidaying together in Ibiza the previous summer. Lee himself is not involved in any criminal activities, but his father, Dubliner Liam, has a notorious reputation.

Gerrard and his wife, Alex Curran, are currently based in Bahrain after Gerrard signed up to become Al-Ettifaq’s head coach back in 2023. The former Liverpool and England legend, 44, has four children with his wife: daughters Lilly, Lexie, 18, and Lourdes, 13, and an eight-year-old son, Leo.

Gerrard’s team Al-Ettifaq are currently 11th and just six points clear of the Saudi Pro League relegation zone. Gerrard’s long-term ally, Michael Beale, was appointed as his assistant back in November after Dean Holden and Mark Allen were let go.

Gerrard explained: “The club made decisions regarding the departure of Mark Allen and Dean Holden. The decision was also made to bring Michael Beale in who is a super coach, we spent years together previously and it’s great to have him back with me. Now we need some time to develop and improve.”
