CLIVE, Iowa — Nothing was going to stop Daniel Bragg from claiming his $150,000 lottery prize, not even his 2001 Chevy Suburban with 849,000 miles or even a snowstorm.
The Newton man drove through Thursday’s winter weather to claim a top prize in the “Money Gift” scratch game at the Iowa Lottery headquarters in Clive.
Bragg bought the winning ticket at a Newton Fareway located at 120 N. Third Ave. E., according to a news release.
After scratching the ticket on New Year’s Eve and realizing how much he won, the 46-year-old told the Iowa Lottery his first thought was “I’ve got to get a car.”
With the winnings, he plans to purchase a small pickup truck.
“Oh, it’ll be a major upgrade. This vehicle, though, can still pull anything,” he said of his Suburban, according to the Iowa Lottery. “They said they built these like a tank, and yeah, it’s a tank!”
Large Iowa Lottery prizes must be claimed at the company’s headquarters.
