AUSTIN, Texas — A brush fire “the size of a football field” started early Monday morning in North Austin, according to responders.
The fire sparked sometime around 5 a.m. by an encampment on the 13300 block of N. U.S. Hwy 183 heading northbound, according to the Austin Fire Department (AFD).
Callers said the fire appeared to be similar in size to a football field, but AFD later said it was contained between an apartment complex and a strip shopping center. Crews said a dumpster caught fire before spreading to trees and a fence.
AFD said it stopped the fire from progressing further just before 6 a.m., and no additional details are available at this time.
