Dalbeattie Star gaffer Eddie Warwick insists drawing with Creetown on Saturday was still a good result despite squandering a two goal lead.
Star were 2-0 up with just minutes remaining, only to be pegged back as Josh Rennie struck twice for the opposition.
The result leaves the sides third and fourth in the South of Scotland League table, with both clubs still in the mix for the title.
Warwick said: “In the general context, a 2-2 draw with Creetown is probably not a bad result. They were very good – they had a slow start to the season, as did we, and it’s a credit to us both that we’re still up there and considered to be serious title contenders.
“It was always going to be a tough game. Drawing with Creetown is not the problem, but every team in the world – including us – would be aggrieved at being 2-0 up with 87 minutes played and drawing 2-2. That’s the part we’re frustrated with.
“Full credit to Creetown, they’re a good side, they’ve got form and they’ve got quality players. We were fortunate enough to take four points off them last season, we’ve done that this season and I’m happy with that.
“We don’t have the right to walk onto a pitch to win a game of football, we need to earn the right to win a game of football. We did up until 87 minutes.
“It was on us, it’s nothing to do with the opposition, facilities or anything like that, it’s our inability to see the game out.
“It is two points dropped from the context of the position we’re in but I’m not having that we shouldn’t be dropping two points to Creetown.
“It’s wrong and disrespectful, they have every right to win a game of football as have we.
“2-0 is the most precarious scoreline in the world, you see it happen with big teams.
“You don’t want to be picking up a draw after being 2-0 up so close to the end but we won’t be the first or last team.
“You could see with their celebrations at the end how much it meant to them.
“I take that as a compliment as it shows they know coming to Dalbeattie and getting a point is a good result.
“We’ll take it on the chin and move on but in the context of the league we’re both still in there fighting.”
Star appeared to be heading to victory thanks to goals from Adam Jamieson and Connor Potts, Creetown reduced to 10 men after Tyler Rennie saw red.
But Josh Rennie struck with just a few minutes left and then scored again to salvage a point.
The weather saw the game moved to the plastic surface at North West Community Campus in Dumfries and a similar switch could take place this weekend, with Star set to host Wigtown.
Warwick said: “Hopefully we can keep getting our fixtures played. We’re keen to get as many played, within the rules, we will always look to play rather than cancel games.
“I thought the pitch was excellent and the facility was perfect after the weather we’ve had.
“People on the internet were having a go but there was coaching on the pitch, with people doing all the usual twisting and turning, during which the referee had to go on and inspect it.
“I find it a wee bit embarrassing and a waste of everyone’s time.
“The fog and mist came later, it was the same at Palmerston, but the referee had clear vision and they got on with it.
“It would have been an injustice for the game to be put off.
“We play in a football league and the nature of the beast is to play your games.”
