Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway has opened up about a massive challenge she encountered while participating in another hit ITV programme. In Monday’s episode, audiences discovered that Kate was unmasked as Spag Bol on Sunday evening’s The Masked Singer.

Reflecting on her time on the much-loved series, Kate revealed her loved ones were kept in the dark about her involvement. She shared: “Very exciting/traumatising for the family! I got my kids to watch. They were very confused about it saying, ‘Why are you forcing us to watch in real time?’

“But, I didn’t know it wasn’t going to be revealed on Saturday, that’s how much in the dark you are. I forced them to watch in real time, and then they were like, ‘Ok, so we’re watching tomorrow then, are we, Mum?'”

However, the GMB presenter admitted the level of secrecy required to prevent the celebrities from being identified is extreme. She explained: “One of the challenges is, they pick you up, they then pull into a field before you get to the location.

“You have to cover all your skin and hair and they put a black visor on you, black jogging bottoms, boots and a T-Shirt that says ‘do not talk to me’. You’re not allowed to speak at all!” reports the Mirror.

When Susanna Reid pointed out that the moment Kate spoke, she would be recognized, the TV host concurred. Kate added: “None of the staff and crew can speak to you, so I had to be silent which was a huge struggle to be honest. So when I began to sing I was just relieved to be able to make a noise.”

Though finding silence challenging, the presenter had high regard for The Masked Singer and relished her involvement in the series. Onscreen, Kate delivered a performance of Geri Halliwell’s Look at Me while donning her Spag Bol disguise.

The show’s panel of sleuths – Maya Jama, Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall, and Mo Gilligan – were stumped, and even with guest Vicky McClure present, they failed to identify the star behind the mask.

When host Joel Dommett unveiled the Good Morning Britain presenter, the judges were left dumbfounded. Reflecting on her participation, Kate said: “I can’t sing and I kept telling them (the production team) that and they said it doesn’t matter.

“Just to have an incredible chance to come out dressed as spaghetti and waddle around trying to sing. It’s been so much fun and everybody’s been great.”

Kate wasn’t the sole celebrity revelation; ITV audiences also witnessed Bake Off judge Dame Prue Leith disclosed as Pegasus. Post-reveal, she commented: “I have say this is the most amazing experience. I’ve never sung a note. I’m tone deaf. I have been having lessons and I’ve got slowly able to at least make a noise.”

Good Morning Britain is on ITV1 weekdays at 6am and on ITVX
