A dog trainer opened up about the three breeds he loves working with – and deems one to be “king” above all the others.

British canine guru Will Atherton posted a short clip on TikTok. He said: “If I could only ever choose three breeds to work with or own in the future, these are the one’s I would choose.”

His first choice, the Cane Corso, would be seen as controversial to some. That’s because it’s a large, protective and energetic breed that needs a lot of training and therefore isn’t suitable for everyone.

But as Will is a professional, he has a lot of experience with the breed. He said: “Number one would be the Cane Corso. I absolutely love mastiff breeds. Of all the mastiff breeds, for me I would be torn between the English mastiff and the Cane Corso.

“If I had to choose, I would probably go Cane Corso for slightly less of an issue around common health issues and slightly increased athleticism. It just lets them enjoy walks more.”

For his second pick, Will went for another larger breed known for being intelligent and good guard dogs. He added: “Next up would be the German shepherd – one of the best dog breeds to train and one of the best all-around dog breeds. They cans turn their hand to absolutely anything.

“Downside for them is they are prone to be quite excessive barkers, so bear this is mind if you’re not ready for that. That could become an issue for you in the future.”

Then finally, he opened up about the “king” of breeds he puts above all the rest. Will added: “Last but not least – and this is the reality if I could only ever choose one breed it would be the Labrador retriever. For me, the king of all dog breeds.”

The final pick won’t come as a surprise to some – as Labradors are known to make great working dogs. They’re loyal, intelligent and typically make for good family dogs too.

Before you welcome any pet into your life, it’s important to do your research first. With dogs, it’s also crucial to put in the work by training them properly. You should consider adopting a pooch that’s in need instead of buying a puppy.

But if you’re anything like us, this extra effort will be worth it in the end! Dogs are man’s best friend, after all.
