McDonald’s is pushing on with plans to open a £4 million drive-thru in Galloway.
The burger barons have lodged a planning application with Dumfries and Galloway Council to build the eatery in the grounds of the derelict Lochryan Hotel just off the A77 near Cairnryan.
The fast food firm claims, if approved, the drive-thru would create 120 jobs.
McDonald’s unveiled its Cairnryan plans in the autumn and claims there was “overwhelming support” for the proposal at a public meeting in November.
Senior acquisitions surveyor at McDonald’s Andrew Crewther, said: ““This is a significant milestone in our vision to bring a McDonald’s drive-thru to Cairnryan, serving both the local community and surrounding areas.
“We have been delighted with the overwhelming support the proposed restaurant has received from the local community, with 95 per cent of all of respondents writing to confirm their support for our proposals. This feedback reinforces the need for greater local food options, and we’re thrilled to be bringing forward a new McDonald’s restaurant to serve the area’s needs.
“I’d like to thank all those who have taken the time to provide comments on the proposals throughout our consultation programme”
McDonald’s is also trying to open a second drive-thru in Dumfries.
The firm withdrew an application to develop a site on the town’s Annan Road after council officials recommended it for rejection.
It intends to lodge a new planning application this year.
