With the final season of Outlander wrapped, the show’s charismatic stars, Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, are now focusing on the next stage in their careers.
Caitriona has the opportunity to end her decade-long portrayal of time-traveling nurse Claire Fraser by winning one of the top awards in American TV.
She has been nominated for Best Actress in a Drama Series at the 30th Critics Choice Awards, competing against some of Hollywood’s biggest names, including Keira Knightley, Keri Russell, and Kathy Bates.
The final ballots went out to members of the Broadcast Television Journalists Association on Friday, January 3, and are to be returned by midnight on Friday, January 10, reports the Scottish Daily Express.
The award ceremony will be broadcasted live on E! from Santa Monica on Sunday January 12.
It is the third time Caitriona, has been nominated for the Critics Choice best TV actress after previously been nominated in 2016 and 2018. If she wins, it could be the greatest achievement of her time on Outlander.
After the nominees were announced last month, the Irish actress posted on Instagram: “Pretty damn thrilled by this … Thank you so much @criticschoice for this huge honour. So grateful to be amongst these amazing women nominated and endlessly grateful for Claire, the role of a lifetime and this show and all the people who make it amazing … cast, writers, crew and of course fans. Go raibh míle maith agaibh.”
That phrase is an Irish Gaelic expression for ‘thank you’, which literally translates as ‘may you have goodness’.
The award nomination recognises Caitriona’s work on the seventh season of the show, which has provided some of the most emotional scenes so far.
One fan said: “Such a deserved nomination!! Your work in episode 7×11 was phenomenal. It is probably in my top 3 eps of the series! I could literally feel her grief in those cries for Jamie. Beautiful work!”
