The ‘saddest documentary ever’ that tells the story about a beloved actor who was a ‘true hero’ is available to stream at home and is leaving viewers in tears.
Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story is now available to stream at home. It is available to those with a Now TV Entertainment pass or a Sky package with access to the Sky Documentaries channel. As the title suggests, it tells the life story and legacy of beloved actor Christopher Reeve.
Reeve was catapulted into stardom as he was cast as Superman/Clark Kent in the 1970s in the first major motion picture adaptation of the iconic character. Directed by Richard Donner, Superman The Movie would become a benchmark for comic book adaptations in the future. Reeve would play the role of the Man of Steel in four films. However, the documentary also focuses on Reeve’s life following a tragic horse riding accident, which left him paralysed.
It has a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes as critics praised the touching tribute to ‘real hero’ Reeve. Fans also admire how the film reflects on Reeves legacy not just as an actor but also as a person, who inspired others facing adversity due to disability. Others note how it shows how inspiring Reeves was and it left many viewers in tears.
One person, sharing their thoughts online said: “Grew up with his original superman movies, and watching the documentary, I must say .. I shed alot of tears from start to finish. It’s wonderful to see his children banding together to continue his and his wife’s legacy to push for stem cell research. A movie I can easily give 10/10. Such an inspiring movie, a must watch.”
Another viewer added: “The saddest documentary I have ever seen. He never stopped trying to beat the injury and she was with him until she couldn’t be. A incredible and powerful emotional moving story of love and the human spirit. The S on his outfit stands for the house of EL. Many people think the S is for Superman, no, the S is for hope and that’s what Christopher Reeve was to so many people with disabilities.”
While a third admitted: “I laughed and cried too much, and what makes Christopher Reeve a hero is how he puts the courageous effort of being a hero himself, overcoming the obstacles he faced, and helping people who has the same accident he had and him and Dana are so so loving together and his three kids, Matthew, Alexandra, & Will, are the best kids ever!”
Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve is streaming on NOW Entertainment and Sky Documentaries.
