A young man has been arrested after a woman died during an alleged hit-and-run in Renfrewshire on New Year’s Eve.
Elizabeth Kennedy, 70, was struck by a car around 7pm on Tuesday, December 31 in Paisley’s Barrhead Road. Emergency services attended but she was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Scotland immediately attempted to establish exactly what happened and appealed for information relating to the vehicle involved in the incident.
On Saturday, the force confirmed it had arrested an 18-year-old male who was later released pending further enquiries.
Detective inspector Jan MacColl said of the investigation: “Our thoughts are with Elizabeth’s family, friends and everyone affected by this tragic incident. Officers will continue to support her family as our enquiries progress.
“I would urge anyone who witnessed the crash, or who may have seen a white car in the area around that time, possibly with damage, to come forward. We would also ask anyone with dash-cam footage that could assist our investigation to please get in touch. Anyone who can help is asked to call 101.”
