MCDOWELL COUNTY, W.Va. – Three warming shelters are opening in McDowell County for people who have lost power, or just need a place to warm up.
In a Facebook post, McDowell County 911 & Office of Emergency Service encouraged people to visit any of the three shelters if needs be.
The warming shelters in McDowell County are:
1) 1st Methodist Church located at 182 Virginia Avenue, Welch, WV 24801, serves about 100 with warming station, phone charging available will open at 3:00 PM today, January 6, 2025 can contact Brad Davis 304-784-3808.
2) Big Creek People in Action, located at 17586 Rocket Boys Drive, Caretta, WV 24892, Warming Station for 50+, phone Charging outlets, some food and water available will open about 3:30 PM today January 6,2025 can contact Dianne Spriggs at 304-875-3418.
3) Gary School for Life, located at 97 Coaldigger Street, Gary WV 24836, 30+ beds, warming station, Phone charging available it is open now and manned 24 hours a day. Can contact Margie’ Moore at 304-448-2309.
