Baby Reindeer’s real life Martha, Fiona Harvey, has hit out after the Netflix show picked up two more television awards.

Richard Gadd and co-star Jessica Gunning collected Golden Globes at a star-studded ceremony, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California.

Gadd won the award for best television limited series while Gunning best supporting female actor on TV for playing Scottish stalker Martha.

Last night, Harvey, 59, fumed: “Netflix have flogged this story to death while my life has been a living hell.”

In collecting his award, Gadd told a packed audience at the Beverly Hilton Hotel that he was “so grateful to Netflix for giving me the chance to tell this messed-up story to the world”.

He added: “Honestly, the way this city, the way you guys have embraced this show is unbelievable. It means the absolute world to me, to us.

“A lot of people sometimes ask me why a show this dark has gone on to be the success that it’s had.

“I think in a lot of ways, people were kind of crying out for something that spoke to the kind of painful inconsistencies of being human.”

“I think right now, when the world’s in the state that it’s in and people are really struggling, we need stories that speak to the complicated and difficult nature of our times.

“Any story when done right, it’s universal, and all the weird, idiosyncratic struggles we go through on a daily basis are just as worthy of being committed to screen as any.”

In the winner’s room, Gadd touched on how the show became controversial following the lawsuit filed against Netflix by Harvey, who claims to be the “real” Martha Scott.

Gadd said: “I can’t go into too much detail on these matters. 2024 was a crazy year of ups and downs and ins and outs. It was quite hard at times to find my feet.”

He added: “It took a long time to unwire myself from Baby Reindeer.

“When it finished it was all-consuming and I didn’t know what to do with myself. I was so thin when I shot it. I was 68.8kg and I’d lost a third of my body weight.

“I had to get used to eating properly again because it unlocked the trapdoor to a lot of sh*t that I’d been through in my life.

“I had to figure out how to close that trap door again.

“It was tough and I had to rewire myself back to a steady state. It was tough for sure.”

Baby Reindeer tells of Gadd being hounded by a vicious stalker and sexually assaulted by a mentor.

The opening credits claim, “This is a true story”

Fiona Harvey is not a big fan of Richard Gadd

Harvey is suing the streaming channel for £130 million claiming defamation.

She said: “The show is ridiculous.”

The Golden Globes are voted for by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

Almost tripping on the stairs to collect her award, Gunning, 38, joked, “You almost saw my Golden Globes” before sharing an anecdote about getting a hamster for Christmas as a child.

She added: “Baby Reindeer has changed my life in ways that I can’t even explain … I know the eight-year-old me would be chuffed to bits.”

Harvey said: “I did not watch it. Friends have drawn my attention to it.

“I do not have a high opinion of it. It’s a load of drivel.

“I have already put my life on hold for a year. I can’t do that anymore.”
