Dundee are closing in on a deal to re-sign Aaron Donnelly.

The Dark Blues are set to agree a deal with Nottingham Forest for the Northern Ireland international. Donnelly is out-of-contract in the summer and the English Premier League outfit would still be entitled to compensation then, but Record Sport understands Dundee are pushing to get a deal just now.

The 21-year-old, who is currently on loan at Colchester United, has been a long-term target for Tony Docherty. He had a successful loan at Dens Park last season. Dundee tried to buy him in the summer but were unable to agree a suitable deal with Forest. All sides are confident a deal will now be struck. Dundee have been actively looking to strengthen their defence with injuries to a number of key players in that area, including captain Joe Shaughnessy, Antonio Portales, Billy Koumetio, Jordan McGhee and Ziyad Larkeche. Dundee have already been active in this window, signing midfielder Cesar Garza from Monterrey on-loan.
