Clive Myrie has spoken out after fans noticed the newsreader had a “drooping eye” while presenting BBC News on Monday night.
The reporter appeared on Monday night BBC News at Six wearing a black suit, white shirt and navy blue tie, but it wasn’t his outfit that caught the attention of viewers as while his right eye was fully open, the left appeared half closed.
As viewers took to twitter concerned for the journalist, Clive issued a statement telling his followers that he was suffering from a slight infection, reports the Mirror.
The BBC News presenter wrote: “Happy N.Year everyone and thank you all for your concern over my left eye. It’s nothing serious, just an infection.
“I did think about wearing an eye patch, but the boss said no! A bit like Long John Silver. He wasn’t having any of it! Cheers.”
Although Clive reassured his followers that he was ok, they still took to social media to check on the newsreader.
One fan asked: “Can you confirm Clive Myrie is OK? Clive Myrie’s sty looks pretty sore this evening.”
“@BBCNews, what’s the matter with Clive Myrie’s left eye?” another worried while a third added: “#bbcnews Is Clive Myrie OK? His eye’s drooping.”
Another viewer commented: “What’s wrong with Clive Myrie’s eye tonight?”
“BBCNews is Clive Myrie ok? His left eye is droopy??” another penned.
This come after the news reporter recently made headlines for not declaring his outside earnings.
Clive, had failed to declare £145,000 from corporate events over the last year. This came around as BBC director-general Tim Davies had made an attempt to be more transparent with the public, ensuring that all on-screen talent declare external earnings and publish their declarations every three months.
The news reporter took to social media to apologise, confirming that he would not be taking part in any more paid external events for “the foreseeable future”.

He wrote: “An apology – I’ve had several administrative issues, and I didn’t fill out the correct paperwork for some of my external public events, so they haven’t been published until now.
“I’ve told the BBC I won’t be taking part in any more paid external events in the foreseeable future, beyond a handful of pre-existing commitments, so that this doesn’t happen again.”
