(CNN) – The donkey used to model the character of Donkey in the movie “Shrek” has died.
Perry the donkey was 30 years old.
The Barron Park Donkey Project in the San Francisco Bay Area says Perry was euthanized on Jan. 2 after his health worsened.
Perry was well known at the park for his link to the 2001 “Shrek” movie.
Animators used him as a model to create appropriate body mechanics for the character, Donkey, which was voiced by Eddie Murphy.
