MARQUETTE COUNTY, Wis. (WMTV/Gray News) – A fisherman died Monday morning after falling through the ice on Lawrence Lake.

According to the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, crews responded around 10 a.m. to the lake for reports of a fisherman who fell through the ice on an ATV.

First responders said efforts were made to save the person but they died at the scene.

The sheriff’s office did not immediately release the name of the fisherman.

Authorities are advising residents to avoid going onto frozen lakes or rivers unless it is confirmed the ice is thick enough.
