LEWISBURG, W.Va. – A Greenbrier County man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of his mother.
Andrew Yancy Gabbert, 33, was arrested Monday morning at a residence on Anderson Road in Lewisburg.
Greenbrier County Sheriff Bart Baker said the incident started when deputies with the Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about the shooting and found a deceased female, 72-year-old Shirley Gabbert, inside the residence.
Baker said she had succumbed to an apparent gunshot wound and her son, Andrew Gabbert, was taken into custody without incident.
Gabbert remains incarcerated at Southern Regional Jail without bond.
The Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Team responded and processed the scene. Lead investigators for the Sheriff’s Office are Lt. Gary Workman and Sgt. Brandon McCormick. The Sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Lewisburg Police Department, the Lewisburg Fire Department and the Greenbrier County Emergency Ambulance Service.
The investigation is ongoing.
