Good Morning Britain’s Andi Peters was deeply moved following a heart-wrenching interview with a mother who lost her son due to the absence of a defibrillator.

The segment during Tuesday’s episode left the usually upbeat presenter struggling to maintain his composure when he switched to hosting a competition on the ITV morning programme.

Broadcasting from Edinburgh, an emotional Andi managed to express: “Slightly moved, I can’t lie,” while fighting back tears, the Mirror reports.

Despite being visibly affected, he proceeded to tell viewers about the substantial cash prize on offer, his voice unsteady and eyes brimming with emotion.

He told those watching at home: “We’ve got an amazing price, we’re in Edinburgh. It’s £105,300. That’s the money we’re going to give away. It’s a huge amount of money, it could change your life.”

He continued: “Take a look at Edinburgh, the sun is rising up this morning. Here, in this wonderful city. This competition is all about the phone, because if you win, I could be calling you live on the television, to let you know you’ve won the prize.”

The poignant moment came after GMB was earlier disrupted by breaking news. A live update from Downing Street was delivered by presenter Ranvir Singh.

The TV host reported on an earthquake that hit about 23km from Shigatse, Tibet at roughly 9am local time (1am GMT). The quake affected several countries, including Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Bhutan, and China, with a powerful magnitude of 7.1.

During the broadcast, she stated: “And some breaking international news, at least 53 people have died and dozens others have been injured in a strong earthquake in Tibet.”

She further emphasised the severity of the quake, describing it as around seven on the Richter scale, with the epicentre near the sacred “holy city” of Shigatse. Additional details included reports of tremors felt across Nepal and parts of India.

As the news was delivered, images of the earthquake’s impact were shown, displaying significant shaking. State media has reported a series of aftershocks, with magnitudes reaching up to 4.4 following the initial quake.
