In-form Johnny Kenny is itching to become a Celtic standout after he returned to the fold following his eye-catching exploits with Shamrock Rovers.

The 21-year-old is riding the crest of a wave after his head-turning exploits in the League of Ireland and is now itching to become a key figure under Brendan Rodgers. Kenny spent two years with Rovers and established himself as one of the finest forwards in the League of Ireland. Kenny’s impact was pronounced and he replicated it in Europe – netting seven goals in qualifying and the league phase to help his side reach the Conference League knockouts.

Now Kenny is down to business as he aims to land game time under Rodgers. Kenny was right among it on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday’s encounter with Dundee United. Kenny signed for Celtic from Sligo Rovers in 2021 but now he reckons he’s primed to make a telling impact. Speaking last month, he said: “I spoke to Celtic. I’m returning and we’ll see where that takes us. It’s my dream to play for Celtic and hopefully I get that in January, time will tell. The goals in Europe are probably worth two or three in the league. I haven’t done myself any harm but it’s over now.”
