HOLTVILLE, Ala. (WSFA/Gray News) – A man who officials said has been deported from the U.S. five times was arrested last week for attempted kidnapping in Alabama.

The Elmore County Sheriff identified the suspect as Yordy Centeno-Melchor, 31.

The sheriff said Centeno-Melchor tried to kidnap a teenage girl at a store in Holtville on New Year’s Eve.

He was taken into custody Friday afternoon and charged with second-degree attempted kidnapping.

According to the sheriff, Centeno-Melchor has been deported from the U.S. five times. His current address is in Wetumpka, Alabama.

Centeno-Melchor had his first court appearance on Monday where a judge set a cash bail at $100,000.
