Perth Leisure Pool will remain closed until Monday, January 13 due to ongoing issues with its swimming pool boilers.
The pools have been closed to the public since December 27 – when they were due to reopen following Christmas – and the entire building since January 3, when it was due to reopen after New Year.
Live Active Leisure – which runs the pool on behalf of Perth and Kinross Council – has apologised to customers for the inconvenience.
Live Active has been updating customers through its Perth Leisure Pool Page.
The latest update posted on January 3 said: “Unfortunately, due to the ongoing issues with the swimming pool boilers, and with the drop in outside temperatures, the whole building is now closed.
“Engineers have been on site to assist with the issue, and we are currently awaiting delivery of parts which we hope will fix the issue. Therefore, Perth Leisure Pool will remain closed until at least Monday 13th January.
“We will provide further updates in due course. Customers can keep up to date by visiting the Perth Leisure Pool Facebook page and our website for the latest information.
“For customers in swimming lessons, our Learn to Swim programme runs over 50 weeks and delivers a minimum of 47 lessons in a calendar year. Refunds will be issued to those participants who receive less than 47 lessons. Our swim team is working through this, and we are grateful for your patience and understanding at this time. Any activities booked and paid for in advance, e.g. Adult and Child or 1-2 lessons will be rolled over.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience in this matter.”
Initially the health suite and gym had been kept open but due to the drop in outside temperatures, the decision was taken on January 3 to close the whole building. The gym at Live Active Leisure’s neighbouring Dewars Centre remains open every day: Monday-Friday 06:30-22:00 and weekends 08:00-17:00.
In September 2024 councillors voted to build a replacement pool and leisure centre on Perth’s Thimblerow Car Park and demolish Perth Leisure Pool to make way for affordable housing upon completion of PH2O.
SNP council leader Grant Laing said: “Perth Leisure Pool is 40 years old and, while a much-loved facility, is showing its age. Long-standing technical issues mean areas such as the walkway from Glasgow Road and outdoor pool are out of commission.
“Unplanned shutdowns are, unfortunately, also becoming more frequent while costs for the building are extremely high.
“PH20 will provide an affordable and sustainable new purpose-built facility that will serve the people of Perth and Kinross for the next 40 years.
“Councillors approved plans for PH20 in January last year and in September agreed for it to be built at Thimblerow. Officers will bring forward detailed plans in due course.”
