A Scot who was killed while serving as a medic on the frontline in Ukraine has been described as “heroic” by his devastated relatives.
Jordan Maclachlan, from Ardnamurchan in the Highlands, died on Friday during conflict with Russian forces. The 26-year-old volunteered to help the Ukrainian army after Russia’s invasion in February 2022 and had been serving for the country ever since.
Speaking to the BBC last night, Jordan’s devastated relatives confirmed his untimely death.
His family told the broadcaster: “Jordan always believed that he was making a difference and we are all so proud of him helping others. We are waiting for further information from the Foreign Office as information is very limited. Jordan was a fun-loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and a friend to many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.”
Others described the medic as “the bravest person” and “the bravest man I know”.
Jordan’s uncle, Robert Mews, said of his nephew: “Bravest man I know. Rest in peace my amazing nephew.”
His aunty, Maxine Pentleton, said online: “My heroic nephew”
Louis Mackenzie wrote: “Rest easy pal you will be missed. The bravest person.”
Sarah Annie MacPhail added: “Thoughts are with all Jordan’s family and friends. He always had time for everyone. One of life’s good guys.”
Keri Harkins Gillespie said: “So immensely proud of you. You were one of the good ones, thank you for everything. I don’t think there will ever be enough words for the heartbreak of your loss.”
A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Ukraine and are in contact with the local authorities.”
