There has been more chaos across the country due to the weather, as planes at a Scots airport were grounded due to snow and ice on runway.

Aberdeen International Airport announced all operations were paused on January 7 while staff worked to clear the airfield of built up snow and ice so flights could safely resume.

Just after 10am on Tuesday morning all operations have resumed but airport personal reminded all passengers to check the status of their flight before travelling to the terminal.

A number of flights were cancelled this morning including services to Stavangar, Manchester and Bergen but all flights this afternoon appear to be scheduled as normal.

A spokesperson for Aberdeen Airport previously said: “Our teams have been working throughout the night to clear snow and de-ice the airfield. Due to the ongoing freezing conditions it’s been necessary to pause operations. Flights will resume when it is safe to do so.

“We would advise passengers to check the status of the their flight with their airline and to take extra care when travelling to the airport.”

They later added: “Operations have now resumed at the airport. We advise passengers to continue to check the status of the their flight with their airline and to take extra care when travelling to the airport.”

The travel chaos is set to continue, as the north of Scotland is placed under a 24 hour yellow weather warning for snow and ice from today with the next instalment of wintry weather to be confined to northern and north-eastern parts of the country.

Experts at the Met Office confirmed the warning will come into effect at 12pm on Tuesday, January 7 and last until 12pm, Wednesday, January 8.
