Andy Halliday has revealed exactly what was said between himself and Brendan Rodgers on the pitch at Celtic Park as the two appeared unlikely friends.

Celtic hammered Motherwell 4-0 in the Boxing Day encounter with former Rangers star Halliday thrown on as a second-half sub. In the post-match handshakes, Rodgers and Halliday were seen embracing and sharing a few light-hearted words, and Halliday has lifted the lid on what they said to one another.

The 33-year-old was asked about the moment on Open Goal that left a few fans confused as to what they had in common. But he said everything coming from Rodgers was actually complimentary – before he responded with a cheeky dig of his own. Halliday revealed: “Do you know what he actually said? He said ‘I enjoy listening to you on the radio. I said ‘I was choking for you to lose so I can cane you’, then it was just a wee laugh.”
