Good causes can apply for grants of up to £10,000 from a fund set up by the operator of two South Lanarkshire wind farms.

Spirit of Lanarkshire Wind Energy Cooperative (SOLWEC) has announced the opening of applications for the latest round of its community grant scheme, sharing out benefits from the Nutberry and West Browncastle developments.

Applications are open to groups in Hamilton, Lanark, Lesmahagow, Kirkmuirhill, Douglas and Coalburn who can apply for between £500 and £10,000; the deadline is February 28 and grant awards will be made in March.

A total funding pot of £15,000 is available in this round of grants from SOLWEC, a community energy organisation.

It operates the six-turbine Nutberry windfarm which is located six kilometres southwest of Coalburn; with the 12-turbine West Browncastle development being located nine kilometres from Strathaven.
