PRINCETON, W.Va. – As we continue to deal with the winter weather, it’s important to keep those serving the community in our minds.

With the inclement weather holding strong, resulting in accidents in some cases across the county, 911 dispatchers are hard at work.

“We are the vital link between the public and our emergency responders here in Mercer County,” said Julie Lockhart, Director of Mercer County 911. “So, we’re the presence when somebody makes that phone call and they have an emergency, we’re the ones that answer those calls and make sure that they get the right response that they need.”

Those needs can change in winter conditions, where roads may be unsafe to travel on or trees and debris impact roadways and properties:

Lockhart added that being a dispatcher involves teamwork and being prepared for anything.

If you don’t need immediate or expedient help, you are encouraged to call Mercer County 911’s non-emergency line. That number is (304) 425-8911.
