(Gray News) – If you want to enjoy the health benefits of coffee, look at the clock next time you reach for a cup.
A new study published in the European Heart Journal suggests that the time you grab a cup of joe determines if you reap its benefits like lower risks of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and premature death.
According to the study, people who drink coffee between 4 a.m. and noon enjoy all its health benefits but those who drink coffee during other parts of the day did not see any health benefits.
“This is the first study testing coffee drinking timing patterns and health outcomes. Our findings indicate that it’s not just whether you drink coffee or how much you drink, but the time of day when you drink coffee that’s important,” said lead author Dr. Lu Qi in a press release.
Compared with people who weren’t coffee drinkers, having coffee only in the morning was associated with a 16% lower risk of premature death from any cause and a 31% lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease.
