I’m A Celebrity star Rev. Richard Coles was stopped at a Scots island airport after security staff mistook his black pudding for a bomb.
The star had been visiting the Outer Hebrides and headed out to Stornoway on January 3, with plans to attend a local church.
But the 62-year-old landed himself in hot water when a security scanner flagged his souvenir black pudding as a potential explosive.
Sharing details of the mix-up, he wrote on social media: “Want to trigger an emergency response going through Lewis security?
“Simply purchase some black pudding from the Isle of Stornoway , which looks to the scanner like Semtex. Tastes MUCH nicer.”
On his New Year’s trip to Scotland he revealed he sampled some of the renowned cuisine the isle of Lewis has to offer – and fell in love with a Stornoway black pudding.
He also visited the historic church of Teampall Mholuaidh at the most northerly point of the island.
A Highlands and Islands Airports Limited spokesperson also said: “We were pleased to welcome the Reverend Richard Coles to Stornoway Airport. It’s great that he is such a huge fan of one of the region’s delicacies. We hope to see him back on the Isle of Lewis soon.”
The Anglican priest was an unlikely entrant on ITV’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! last year and built up a cult following among viewers.
Despite not walking away with the crown, the priest came away with an unlikely friendship with Loose Women star Grace ‘GK’ Barry.
As their dynamic had viewers in hysterics a lot of the time, many called for them to have their own show in the outside world. At the end of last year, delighted fans saw GK and Richard reunite on-screen when he appeared on Loose Women to discuss his time on the programme.
Although the duo seem to have their own show in the works, fans are calling for them to appear on Celebrity Gogglebox. One person commented: “Your friendship with Richard was so sweet. You two definitely need to be on Celebrity Gogglebox. Please put him on your podcast.”
Someone else begged: “You and the Rev need to go on gogglebox”. Agreeing, one fan wrote: “Grace gave us some of the best conversations with Richard, I need a celeb gogglebox episode with them two as soon as I’m going to miss them.”
