More than 5000 motorists in North Ayrshire have been fined since the introduction of DPE Parking (Decimalised Parking Enforcement helping the local authority pocket more than £200,000.

And parking on the pavement was by far the most common offence, with more than 1,300 drivers falling foul of this.

Following a freedom of Information request by the Local Democracy Reporting Service it was revealed that some 5,689 fines were issued from April to November.

The car parks in West Road and High Street, Irvine and Main Street, Largs were recorded as having the most number of offences.

The number of people who paid early at £50 was 3,964, bringing in around £200,000, while 303 paid £100, securing £30,000 and 464 were referred to sheriffs for debt recovery.

The breakdown of offences is, as follows:
