A Scots teenager was left “very scared” after a man allegedly punched and shattered her windscreen in a fit of road rage.

The 18-year-old woman had only just passed her test when the incident took place in the city’s Morningside on Sunday, January 5, which left her “shaken and confused”, reports Edinburgh Live. According to the woman, who asked not to be named, she pulled out of Cluny Avenue onto Morningside Road when a driver behind her proceeded to beep his horn.

The woman said she was “extremely confused” and decided to pull over off the main road to get out of the man’s way. As she pulled onto the nearby Maxwell Street, she claims the man overtook her and blocked her from moving any further before storming out and screaming at her window.

As he was about to leave, the man reportedly turned back around and punched the woman’s windscreen, leaving it shattered.

The terrified driver said: “I pulling out on to Morningside Road from Cluny Avenue and a man in a car behind me began to beep non stop and I was extremely confused so I decided it was best to pull off the main road to get out his way.

“I pulled into Maxwell Street in the hope he would keep driving on but before I got the chance to fully turn he overtook me and and blocked my car from turning fully onto the street.

“He then got out his car and came over to the drivers side and started screaming at me. I didn’t react and just hoped he would eventually leave. As he went to leave he punched my windscreen on the drivers side causing that whole side to shatter.

“It left me very scared and shaken up and was so confused on what to do.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8pm on Sunday, 5 January, 2025, we received a report of vandalism to a vehicle in the Maxwell Street area of Edinburgh. Enquiries are ongoing.”
