BLUEFIELD, Va. – The first of 10 planned demolitions for dilapidated houses began on Wednesday in the Town of Bluefield.
The first dilapidated house to go down is located at 1500 Virginia Avenue. Town leaders tell us the home is one in particular that is not only a blight to the the community but also unsafe.
Empire Salvage and Recycling began demolishing the home on Wednesday morning. The Town of Bluefield has reportedly set aside more than $100,000 to tear down 10 houses the town believes are in the worst shape.
Town leaders say they believe the number of homes in town that need renovations or demolitions is close to 50. Other demolitions are planned for Virginia Avenue, Grove Street and Greaver Avenue among others.
