Two people were treated by paramedics after a vehicle transporting livestock trailer overturned on the M74 on Wednesday, January 8.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the trailer – which had been carrying a number of animals – overturned on the M74 northbound before Junction 5 for the Bellshill Bypass, past Hamilton. The accident occurred just before 3pm closed two lanes on the motorway, reports Glasgow Live.
All lanes reopened around 5.17pm. Traffic camera images showed the trailer overturned and blocked two lanes of the motorway,and that police, firefighters and paramedics were in attendance.
Drivers were stuck in queues of more than four miles between Larkhall and Glasgow. Traffic Scotland said drivers were stuck in delays of around 45 minutes when lanes eventually reopened.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 2.58pm on Wednesday, January 8 to reports of an overturned vehicle on the M74 northbound between junctions 6 and 5. Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances and specialist resources to the area where a vehicle with a trailer carrying a number of animals had overturned.
“Two casualties were in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service. Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
In a statement shared to social media, Traffic Scotland said: “All lanes now running Northbound at the Raith Interchange following the earlier collision. Emergency services have now left the scene however traffic remains heavy with approx 45 minute delay.”
Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service have been approached for more information.
