WAYNE COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO/Gray News) – Ohio authorities say a 16-year-old boy died Wednesday after falling through ice on a frozen pond while ice skating with his younger brother.

The teen has been identified by the Summit County Medical Examiner as Lamar Good.

According to authorities, the accident happened near Fulton Road at about 10:40 a.m.

Firefighters said the boy’s younger brother saw what happened and alerted family members.

“The 5-year-old came off the ice and heard a scream. He turned around and looked and saw his brother in the water,” Wayne County Sheriff Tom Ballinger said.

A neighbor, who lives on the property where the pond is located also called 911 for help.

Authorities said the 16-year-old fell into the deepest part of the pond and was under the water for about 10 minutes before first responders arrived.

Rescue crews were able to pull the teen from the water. CPR was performed, and he was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.

The medical examiner has ruled Good’s death as accidental.
